It is a great joy to paint in my studio this winter. The new roof and skylight fitted last summer means I can work in comfort on the coldest of days, no dripping ceiling and clearer natural light. This painting is ready to go to the gallery later this week. 'Pale and Still, Compton Bay' was inspired by a walk to the far end of Compton Beach on a grey day in January. Endlessly inspiring, always shifting and changing, Compton Beach is a new place every visit. Tide in, tide out, cliffs crumbling, sand wet, sand dry, no sand, black rocks, purple marl, grey stones, low sun, high sun, no sun. Walk East to Brook. Walk West toward the chalk cliff. Into the sun.
