Newtown Creek

I can hardly believe it is a year since I last posted a blog on this site - coincidentally a year to the day in fact. Perhaps there is something about 14th November, something significant. Setting that aside I just thought I would mention that I have hung a new painting at Yarmouth Gallery, this part memory, part imagined image of Newtown Creek. Looking out across the water, through the fringe of reeds that border the marsh. A watery sun breaking through the mist of a wet day to light up the scene with a grey-gold light.

I have used just earth colours, raw umber, burnt umber, burnt sienna, raw sienna, yellow ochre - no blues and the outcome is a natural, warm, glowing image. The medium is oil paint which I have applied with a palette knife, quite boldly. A rich impasto!

Oil on stretched canvas 80cm w x 100 cm h
