Approaching Rain - Yarmouth, IW

November 4, 2018

A new painting on a continuing 'cloud' theme. In this most recent work the sky behind Yarmouth Town darkens and sunlight on the harbour and town will soon be blocked out by the gathering storm. I began the painting in early summer, before the heatwave began and the weather was unsettled.  In the earlier version I have chosen a vantage point further back from the town at Norton Corner and the light is cooler, the contrasts stronger.  This canvas was begun last winter and the dark grasses and broken fence in the foreground attracted me as much as the marvelous cumulus clouds.  Both paintings are in oils on stretched canvas 80cm h x 100cm w
